Walk toward any critter you spot and it joins your party on its own. Hold the round button near a root snarl to clear the way. Best played with sound on.
How to play
On a phone, drag the joystick in the bottom-left corner to walk and drag anywhere else on the screen to look around. On a keyboard, use WASD to walk and drag with the mouse to turn the camera. You do not aim or fight for companions: walk close enough to a Sprout, Puffling, or Glimmer and it falls in line behind you automatically, adding to your party power as it joins.
Root snarls block the path here and there. Get close and a round button appears. Hold it (or hold the E key on desktop) for under a second and the snarl dissolves, no combat required. Clear the valley or run out the two-minute timer and you get a final score built from companions recruited plus party power. Today’s valley layout is the same for everyone, and your best score saves on this device. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to AFK Journey
Petal Vale keeps the feeling that makes AFK Journey’s loop work: companions that join with almost no effort from you, a number that keeps climbing as your party grows, and a session that rewards a quick check-in rather than a long grind. Walking up to a critter and watching it fall in step behind you is the same small dopamine hit as pulling a new hero, just without the randomness attached.
Everything else is gone on purpose. There is no gacha, no tile-based auto-battle, no hero roster with skill trees, no guild content, and no story cinematics. AFK Journey is a full mobile RPG with hundreds of collectible heroes, resonating statues, and a progression system built to be checked several times a day for months. Petal Vale is one valley, a couple of minutes, and a restart button. We built it as a taste of the collect-and-explore feeling, not a replacement for the real game’s depth.

No. Petal Vale is an original game we built, inspired by companion-collecting adventure games in general.
