Bejeweled is the game that put match-3 on the map, and swapping two gems to trigger a cascade of clears still feels as good as it did in 2001. What has changed is everything wrapped around that loop: ads between rounds, boosters to buy, a login wall on some versions. So we built Gem Cascade, a free match-3 that keeps the swap-and-cascade feeling and drops the rest. It runs right here on this page, no download, no signup, and it starts the moment you tap a gem.
Play Gem Cascade now
Drag a gem onto a neighbor to start. Sound is off by default; the toggle sits under the board.
How to play
Swap two adjacent gems to line up three or more of the same shape. On touch, drag a gem toward its neighbor, or tap one gem and then tap the one next to it. On desktop, use the arrow keys to move the cursor, press Enter to pick a gem, then press an arrow to swap it.
Each round hands you a color and a count instead of a flat score target: clear enough gems of that color within 24 moves and the round is yours. Match four in a row for a striped gem that clears its whole row or column, and match five for a bomb gem that takes out the surrounding block when it goes off. Chain a cascade right after a swap and your points multiply. The board is seeded from today’s date, so everyone gets the same starting layout, and clearing a round keeps your day streak alive. Your best score and streak live in your browser’s local storage. Nothing leaves your device.
How it compares to Bejeweled
Gem Cascade keeps what actually makes Bejeweled work: the swap, the clear, and the second and third matches that fall into place on their own. Cascades still chain, bigger runs still create special gems, and a round can still slip away if you spend swaps carelessly. We added one small twist of our own: instead of a single climbing score target, each round asks you to collect a specific color, which turns every board into a quick read of “where’s my color” rather than just “where’s any match.”
We left out most of what Bejeweled has built up over two decades. There is no Zen or Poker mode, no Hyper Cubes or purchasable power-ups, no daily-spin ad wall, and no account or cloud save tied to EA. Bejeweled Classic is free to install with optional in-app purchases and ad breaks between boards, and it is still the deeper game if you want dozens of modes and a leaderboard to climb.
So play Gem Cascade when you want the swap-and-cascade loop with zero setup and nothing to install. Get Bejeweled Classic when you want the full spread of modes and the game that started the genre.
If you’d rather browse other match-3 apps first, our Bejeweled alternatives roundup compares seven of them side by side.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play Bejeweled in a browser?
Not directly on this page. Electronic Arts distributes Bejeweled Classic through Google Play, and there is no official browser port of that version today. What you can play here is Gem Cascade, our own match-3 built for the browser, sharing the swap-and-cascade loop without any install step.
Is this the real Bejeweled?
No. Gem Cascade is an original game we built ourselves, inspired by the match-3 genre Bejeweled popularized. All of its art and sound are our own code, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Electronic Arts or PopCap in any way.
Does my progress save?
Yes, on your device. Your best score and day streak are stored in your browser’s local storage and restored the next time you visit. A new board arrives with each daily seed, but your best score and streak carry over. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Is it free?
Completely. No ads, no purchases, no account, no data collection. Bejeweled Classic itself is free to download with optional in-app purchases and ad breaks, which is one more reason to try the loop here first.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the game makes no further network requests, so a dropped connection will not interrupt a round. For genuine offline play on the go, install Bejeweled Classic, which works without a connection outside of its ads and any store features.
