How to pick the right one

If Netflix looks visibly worse on the PC than on a TV, install Microsoft Edge and sign in there. Nine times out of ten this is the entire fix.

If the display is HDR-capable but the picture is dim or over-crushed, run Windows HDR Calibration, then verify with HDR + WCG Image Viewer. Both are free.

For local files (Blu-ray rips, downloaded content, HDR home videos), MPC-HC or MPC-BE handles playback with HDR intact. Keep both installed for the occasional file one handles better.

If you own a colorimeter, DisplayCAL is the gold standard. If you do not, buy the SpyderX cheapest tier once and use it for the rest of the display’s life; the return on that purchase is measurable.

Why does Netflix cap Chrome at 720p on my PC?

Chrome does not ship the DRM stack Netflix requires for higher tiers on Windows. Edge does. This is a licensing decision, not a technical limit of Chrome per se.
