Gorilla Tag turned arm-swinging into a sport: no teleport locomotion, no buttons for movement, just your own arms flinging a gorilla avatar across a climbing gym while you chase or flee from everyone else in the room. The catch is it needs a VR headset. We wanted that momentum-and-chase feeling without strapping anything to your face, so we built Canopy Tag, a free 3D browser game where you climb a procedurally generated rig and hunt down an AI rival before the clock runs out. No headset, no install, no signup.
Play Canopy Tag now
Tap Play, move with the pad or WASD, and close the gap on the rival before time runs out. Best played with sound on.
How to play
Today’s climbing rig is generated from the date, so everyone plays the same layout. On keyboard, WASD moves and space jumps; drag the mouse to turn the camera. On touch, the left pad moves, dragging the right side of the screen turns the camera, and the JUMP button jumps. Hold a direction to build momentum (watch the small meter next to your best score) for longer leaps between platforms.
You are always the chaser. Get close enough to the rival to tag it and your score goes up, but each tag sends it further away and makes it react faster, so the back half of a 60-second run is a lot harder than the first ten seconds. Your score, best run today, and streak are saved on your device, and nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to Gorilla Tag
Gorilla Tag’s whole identity is physical: two motion controllers standing in for your arms, and every bit of speed you get comes from how hard you actually swing them. It also runs multiplayer rooms with dozens of real people at once, across modes like Infection and Hunt, plus cosmetics, mods, and a sprawling community meta-game around all of it. Canopy Tag keeps the part of that we could actually put in a browser tab: momentum-based traversal across a climbing gym, a chase loop with a fleeing target, and a daily layout everyone shares.
What we dropped is everything that makes Gorilla Tag Gorilla Tag for most of its players. There is no VR, no arm-tracked locomotion, no other humans in the arena, and no progression system. The AI rival is a decent stand-in for a chase, but it is not a friend group screaming across voice chat. Think of Canopy Tag as a five-minute taste of the traversal feel, not a substitute for the real social game.
If you want the actual multiplayer chaos, that only exists with a headset. Get the real thing when you have a Quest or a PC VR setup and want to play with other people instead of against a script.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play Gorilla Tag in a browser?
Not the real thing. Gorilla Tag is built around VR motion controllers, so it needs a Meta Quest headset or a PC VR rig through Steam. Canopy Tag, the game on this page, is our own original browser game inspired by its climbing and chase loop, and it runs on any phone or desktop with no headset.
Is this the real Gorilla Tag?
No. Canopy Tag is an original game we built, inspired by the momentum-climbing genre that Gorilla Tag popularized. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Another Axiom in any way. All art and sound are our own code, and the download links above point to the official game.
Do I need a VR headset to play this?
No. That is the whole point. Canopy Tag runs in a regular browser tab with mouse, keyboard, or touch controls, so you get a taste of the climbing-and-chase feel without owning any VR hardware.
Is it free?
Completely. No ads, no purchases, no account, and no data collection. Your score, best run, and streak live in your browser’s local storage and are never sent anywhere.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, Canopy Tag makes no further network requests, so it keeps working through connection drops. Gorilla Tag itself needs a live connection for its multiplayer rooms, since the whole point is playing with other people.
