Ginger Keyboard app feature graphic showing grammar and spelling correction on an Android keyboard

Ginger Keyboard replaces the stock Android keyboard with one that catches grammar and spelling mistakes as you type, right inside any app on your phone. That same itch shows up constantly on desktop too: an email draft, a comment, a cover letter, and no keyboard app to catch the slip. So we built a free grammar checker that runs right here in your browser. Paste or type your text and issues get flagged within a second, no download and no account required.

Start typing in the box below, or paste in a paragraph. Issues get underlined as you go, with plain-language suggestions in the panel next to it.

How to use it

A sample paragraph loads first so you can see how it works before typing anything. Replace it with your own text, or paste over the whole thing. Issues get a colored underline as you type: a solid red line marks something worth fixing, like a repeated word, a missing space, or a mixed-up word pair such as “your” and “you’re”. A dashed amber line marks a softer style note, like a possible passive-voice sentence, that you can take or leave.

Every flagged issue also shows up as a plain-language card in the suggestions panel, with a short explanation of what it caught. Where a fix is mechanical, an “Apply fix” button makes the correction for you in one click. Your text is saved on your device as you type, so closing the tab and coming back does not lose your draft. Nothing you type here leaves your browser: there is no server call, no account, and no copy of your text stored anywhere but your own device.

How it compares to Ginger Keyboard

We want to be direct about what this page actually is: a fast, rule-based checker for common mistakes, not an AI writing assistant. It catches a specific, useful set of problems well, repeated words, double spaces, a missing space after punctuation, a lowercase letter starting a sentence, a handful of commonly confused word pairs, article mismatches like “a” versus “an”, missing sentence-ending punctuation, and doubled-up punctuation marks like “!!” or “??”. It also flags a possible passive-voice sentence as a style tip. All of that runs instantly, with pattern matching, and none of it needs a network connection.

Ginger Keyboard and other AI-powered writing tools go a lot further, and the gap is real. They read a sentence in context, so they catch subject-verb agreement errors, wrong verb tenses, and awkward phrasing that has nothing to do with a recognizable pattern. They can suggest full sentence rewrites, adjust tone from casual to formal, and translate text on the fly. Ginger Keyboard specifically works inside every app on your phone, correcting text as you type in messages, emails, and social posts, not just in one browser tab. If you want that depth of correction and you want it everywhere you type on your phone, the keyboard app is the better tool. This page is for a quick check on a draft you already have open, right now, without installing anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is this grammar checker really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no account, no usage limit, and no paywall. You can paste as much text as you want, as often as you want.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser using pattern matching, not a server-side AI model. Nothing you type or paste is ever sent to us or to anyone else, and there is no network request involved in checking your text.

Is this the same as Ginger Keyboard or an AI grammar tool?

No. This is an original tool we built to catch common, pattern-based mistakes quickly in your browser. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Ginger Software. Ginger Keyboard uses AI to catch context-dependent errors and correct text across every app on your phone; this page catches a narrower, well-defined set of issues without needing an install.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, checking your text keeps working without an internet connection, since nothing is sent anywhere to begin with. Your last draft is saved in your browser’s local storage on your own device.

What kinds of mistakes does it catch?

It flags repeated words, double spaces, a missing space after punctuation, a sentence that starts with a lowercase letter, commonly confused words like “your” and “you’re” or “their” and “there”, “a” versus “an” mismatches, missing sentence-ending punctuation, doubled punctuation marks, and inconsistent quote styles. It also notes possible passive-voice sentences as a style tip. It does not catch every grammar mistake, since it is not reading your text for meaning the way an AI assistant does.
