How to use it

The bar chart underneath gives you a quick visual read on how those numbers relate to each other as your draft grows.
There is no count button, because there is nothing to wait for: every keystroke recalculates instantly. Multiple spaces, blank lines between paragraphs, and pasted text with odd line breaks are all handled the way you would expect. Hit Clear to wipe the box and start fresh. Your text is saved on your device as you go, so closing the tab or reloading the page never costs you a draft. Nothing you type is uploaded anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
How does the word counter count words?
It splits your text on whitespace after trimming the edges, so runs of multiple spaces, tabs, or line breaks between words never inflate the count. An empty box or text that is only spaces and line breaks counts as zero words, exactly as you would expect.
How is reading time calculated?
We divide your word count by 200, an average adult silent-reading speed, and round to the nearest minute. Anything under a minute shows as “less than 1 min” instead of rounding down to zero, so short snippets still get a useful answer.
Does it count paragraphs and sentences accurately?
Yes. A paragraph is text separated by a blank line, so a single line break inside a paragraph does not split it. A sentence is a run of text ending in one or more of . ! or ?, and any leftover text after the last punctuation mark still counts as one more sentence, so an unfinished line is not left uncounted.
Is my text private?
Yes. Everything is counted directly in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or sent anywhere, including when you use Share, which only sends the aggregate numbers, never your actual text. Your draft is saved to your device’s local storage so it survives a reload, and it never leaves that device either.
