Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy built a reputation on one brutal idea: climb a mountain of junk using nothing but a sledgehammer, and a single careless swing can send you sliding back to where you started. Fans describe it as painful and unforgettable in the same sentence. We built The Long Haul, a free browser game inspired by that same hammer-climbing loop. It runs right here, no install, no signup, no download.
Play The Long Haul now
Drag from the hammer toward the rock to grab a hold, then keep dragging to pull yourself up. Best played with sound on.
How to play
On a phone or tablet, drag from the hammer toward a spot on the rock, then keep dragging to haul yourself up. On desktop, do the same with a mouse, or use the arrow keys to aim and hold space to grip if you’d rather stay off the mouse entirely. There’s no jump button and no map. Just the hammer.
Rustbank is the same fixed mountain for everyone, exactly like the climb it’s inspired by. What changes day to day is your streak: come back and climb again and your visit count goes up, alongside the best height you’ve ever reached. Both numbers live in your browser’s local storage. Nothing you do here leaves your device.
How The Long Haul compares to Getting Over It
The Long Haul keeps the part of Getting Over It that actually matters: one hammer, one mountain, and a physics model where pulling yourself up is deliberate and losing your grip at the wrong moment can cost you most of a climb. We built our own terrain, our own climber, and our own hazards from scratch, but the tension between fragile progress and a catastrophic slide is the feeling we were chasing.
What we left out is everything that turns the original into a full commercial game rather than a browser demo. There’s no narration track, no specific junk-pile landmarks recreated from the real mountain, no achievements, and no Steam Workshop mods. Our climb is shorter and our hazards are our own invention, tuned for a few minutes at a time instead of one long sitting.
If The Long Haul leaves you wanting the whole thing, Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is worth playing on a real PC or Mac. The narrated commentary alone is a different experience than anything a browser game can reproduce, and the full mountain rewards the kind of long, uninterrupted session a phone browser tab was never built for.

FAQ
Can I play Getting Over It in a browser?
Not the original game itself. Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a paid Steam title for Windows and macOS with no official browser or mobile version. The Long Haul is our own hammer-climbing game inspired by its core mechanic, built to run instantly in any browser.
Is this the real Getting Over It?
No. The Long Haul is an original game built by the Unstore content team, inspired by the climbing mechanic in Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy. We’re not affiliated with Bennett Foddy or the game’s publisher, and nothing in our game reuses its assets, mountain, or characters.
Does it work offline?
Yes, once the page has loaded. The Long Haul runs entirely in your browser with no server calls during play, so a dropped connection mid-climb won’t interrupt your run.
Is it free?
Yes. There’s no signup, no paywall, and no ads inside the game. Your height records and streak count save locally on your device.
Why do I keep sliding back down?
That’s the point. Losing your grip on a steep section lets gravity take over, and steep terrain gives you almost nothing to hold once you’re airborne. It always traces back to a release that happened at the wrong moment, not bad luck.
