PAC-MAN invented the chase that every maze game still runs on: clear the dots, read the pursuers, grab the power-up, flip the hunt. More than four decades later that loop has lost none of its pull. We wanted it without an install, so we built Dot Dash, an original maze chase in the same spirit that runs right here on this page. Free, no download, no signup. You steer Volt, a small comet, through a neon maze while four wisps hunt you down, each in its own way.
Play Dot Dash now
Tap Play to start. Swipe anywhere to steer on a phone, or use the arrow keys or WASD on desktop.
How to play
Clear every dot in the maze to advance. Each dot is 10 points, and turns queue up: swipe or press the next direction a moment early and Volt takes the corner the instant it opens. That input buffer is what makes fast routes feel smooth instead of fiddly.
The four wisps are the real game, because each hunts differently. Ember, the red one, chases your exact position and never lets up. Vex, the blue one, aims four tiles ahead of where you are heading, so it cuts corners you thought were safe. Nyx, the violet one, uses Ember’s position to flank you from the opposite side, which is how you end up pinched in a corridor. Drift, the teal one, wanders to random corners, and that unpredictability is exactly what breaks a route you had figured out. Learn the four habits and you can bait them; ignore them and they close a net around you.
Grab a glowing power core and the hunt flips for a few seconds: the wisps turn slate and flee, and eating them chains from 200 up to 1600 points. A bonus spark worth 300 or more appears once you clear half the maze.
The maze is generated from today’s date, so everyone plays the same layout with the same score target each day. Hit the target to grow your streak. Your best score and streak are saved on your device. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to PAC-MAN
Dot Dash keeps the two things that make PAC-MAN work: dot-clearing under pressure, and four pursuers with genuinely distinct AI. Our chaser roles follow the same design philosophy that made the original’s ghost gang famous, one direct chaser, one ambusher, one flanker, one wildcard, because that ensemble is what turns a maze into a puzzle you solve at speed. Power cores, chained captures, a bonus pickup, and an extra life at 10,000 points are all here, and a run lasts a familiar two to five minutes.
Everything else is deliberately our own. The mazes are original layouts, four of them rotating with the daily seed, not reproductions of the classic grid. Volt is a comet, not a yellow circle, and the wisps have their own names, shapes, and colors. All art and sound are drawn and synthesized by our code.
We also left the licensed product out entirely. There are no official mazes, no tournaments, no themed skins, no leaderboards, and no unlockables. If you clear a few mazes here and want more, that is the moment to get the real thing: Bandai Namco’s PAC-MAN 256 turns the maze into an endless scroll with the glitch chasing you, adds power-ups and missions, and plays offline. The classic standalone PAC-MAN app has been retired from Google Play, so 256 is the official maze chase to install today.
Get the full game
PAC-MAN 256 is free with optional purchases on Android and iOS. It is Bandai Namco’s own spin on the formula, built with the Crossy Road team: an endless maze that corrupts behind you, the full ghost cast, and score chasing that holds up years after release.
Frequently asked questions
Can I play Pac-Man in my browser for free?
Bandai Namco does not publish a free official browser version. Dot Dash, the game on this page, is our own maze chase built around the same loop, and it runs free in any modern browser on phone or desktop. For the official experience you want PAC-MAN 256 on Android or iOS.
Is this the real PAC-MAN?
No. Dot Dash is an original game we built, inspired by the mechanics PAC-MAN made famous. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Bandai Namco in any way. Every maze, character, name, and sound in our version is original work created by us, and the download links above point to the official game.
Why do the chasers behave differently?
Because identical pursuers make a boring maze. Ember hunts your position, Vex predicts where you are going, Nyx flanks from the far side, and Drift roams at random. The mix means no single trick escapes all four, which is the same insight that made the original’s ghosts a design landmark. Watching which wisp is closest and choosing your route around its habit is the whole skill curve.
Is it free?
Completely. No ads, no purchases, no accounts, and no data collection. Your best score and daily streak live in your browser’s local storage and are never sent anywhere.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, Dot Dash makes no further network requests, so it keeps running through connection drops. For a proper offline arcade game, install PAC-MAN 256, which plays fully offline after download.
