Retro Bowl proved that one great mechanic can carry an entire football game: the flick pass. New Star Games built a whole franchise around dragging your finger, leading a receiver, and watching the ball drop into his hands, and it is the reason “one more drive” turns into an hour. If you searched for a way to play Retro Bowl online with no download, this page is our answer. We built Gridiron Drive, a stripped-down flick-pass drill in the same spirit, and it runs right here. Free, no install, no signup.
Play Gridiron Drive now
Tap Play to start. Tap to snap the ball, then drag anywhere and release to throw.
How to play
Gridiron Drive is a two-minute passing drill. Before the snap you see your three receivers and their dotted routes. Tap to snap, then drag and release to throw: the arrow shows where the ball will land, and the ring at the tip is your catch window. Lead the receiver into the ball, not the other way around. If the arrow turns red, a defender is sitting on that spot, and throwing there is how interceptions happen. On desktop, Space snaps and keys 1 to 3 fire a quick pass to each receiver.
The rules are simple football. You get four downs to reach the orange line, a touchdown is worth 7, and an interception or a failed fourth down resets the drive. Hold the ball too long and the pass rush gets home, costing you 6 yards and 5 seconds. Incompletions stop the clock, so a smart throwaway beats a sack.
Every day has its own drill: defense speed, cushion, and ball-hawking are seeded from the date, so everyone faces the same defense today. Your best score and day streak are saved on your device. Nothing leaves your browser.
How it compares to Retro Bowl
Gridiron Drive keeps the part of Retro Bowl you feel in your thumb: the flick pass. Drag, lead, release, and the ball drops over coverage into a receiver’s path. The chunky pixel field, the drive rhythm of downs and first-down markers, and the instant restart are all here, and a full session fits in two minutes.
We deliberately left out the bigger half of the game. Retro Bowl’s real genius is the management layer: drafting and trading, keeping star players happy, juggling salary cap and coaching staff, and dragging a bad franchise to a title over multiple seasons. None of that is here. There is no kicking game either, no defense to control, and no roster whose names you start caring about. Our daily drill replaces the season structure with one shared challenge: everyone plays the same defense today, so scores are directly comparable.
So when should you get the real thing? If the flick pass hooks you here, it is maybe a tenth of what the full game does with it. Retro Bowl plays offline, a season takes shape in a few commutes, and the franchise loop is the reason it has sat near the top of the sports charts for years. Ours is the practice field. New Star’s game is the career.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play Retro Bowl online without downloading?
New Star Games does not publish an official browser version of Retro Bowl for Android or iOS players. The game on this page, Gridiron Drive, is our own flick-pass drill built around the same throwing mechanic, and it runs in any modern browser on phone or desktop. For the real Retro Bowl, use the download links above.
Is this the real Retro Bowl?
No. Gridiron Drive is an original game we built, inspired by the passing mechanic that made Retro Bowl famous. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to New Star Games in any way. All art and sound in our version are original work, and the store links on this page point to the official game.
How do I throw the ball?
Tap the field to snap, then drag anywhere on the screen and let go. The dotted arrow shows where the ball will land and the ring marks the catch window, so aim ahead of your receiver and let him run into it. If the arrow turns red, a defender is lurking there. On a keyboard, Space snaps and keys 1, 2, and 3 throw a pre-led pass to each receiver.
Is it free?
Completely. There are no ads, no purchases, no accounts, and no data collection. Your best score and day streak live in your browser’s local storage and never get sent anywhere.
Why is the defense the same every run today?
The drill is generated from today’s date, so everyone in the world faces the same defensive speed, cushion, and ball-hawking each day. That makes scores comparable: if a friend put up 21 today, they beat the exact same defense you did. A new drill arrives at midnight, which is also how your day streak grows.
